This duplex was purchased precisely for what many might see as a problem: it was practically in its original state. But for the architect who entrusted us with the renovation, that was exactly what made it valuable.
The project they developed — and which we executed — was based on a premise more common than you might think: to intervene without distorting. To maintain the building’s architectural character, respect the existing language, and rejuvenate what time had worn away, without ever losing the thread of the past.
The details say it all: the height alignments of the tiles were carefully preserved; the new terrazzo floors were chosen to be identical to the existing ones; and the revivalist faucets complete the intent. Every choice was made so that the new and the original become indistinguishable.
The kitchen was the moment of greatest boldness — and yet, a contained boldness. The update of the space was the most contemporary gesture of the project, but always within the same language, without breaking the balance that the whole required.
The result? An apartment that seems to have always been this way. And rightfully so.
